Mental Preperation

Published by admin on July 7th, 2011 - in Mental Preperation

If you are choosing to work at home, it will be important to have a realistic picture of what it will really be like. You may be attracted to the idea because you can work without a boss overlooking what you’re doing, no annoying co-workers and being able to make your own schedule, but there is more to having a home based business than that. Before jumping into working from home, you will need to do some mental preparation. You will need to mentally prepare to be self-motivated, schedule time to work, and resist the temptation to be distracted.

MENTAL PREPARATION TO BE SELF-MOTIVATED

When you are thinking about working at home, you will need to mentally prepare to work without someone telling you what to do and when to do it. You will need to stay on schedule and complete tasks on your own. You will need to make working important. You cannot wait for someone else to pick up the slack if an employee from your home based business isn’t able to work. If the tasks aren’t done, there may be no one else to delegate to when you want to “punch out”. If you choose to participate in an activity, you may find yourself up late completing work that you put off.

MAKING A SCHEDULE WHEN YOU HAVE A HOME BASED BUSINESS

When you work for someone else, they are usually in charge of your schedule. When you have a home based business you will need to make your own schedule. Mental preparation to do this will include letting people know that you are working specific hours and that you are not available. When you work from home, you will need to be mentally prepared to say “no” to people who think that because you have a home based business you are available anytime that they need you.

MENTALLY PREPARE TO AVOID DISTRACTIONS
When you are working from home you will need to be mentally prepared to resist being distracted. The distractions can come from feeling like you need to do dishes or laundry around the house or from children who suddenly feel like they cannot live without you in the same room for 5 minutes. Mental preparation ahead of time will make it easier to let household chores go (you wouldn’t do them during working hours if you worked outside the home) and to teach children, and even spouses, that when you are working at your home based business you are not available.

Having a realistic understanding of the mental preparation needed for a home based business will increase your chance of success.
